There is some controversy about email marketing among entrepreneurs. Some people have even gone so far as to proclaim that email marketing is dead. As a newsletter publisher I am here to say that email marketing is very much alive. The only people who say it is dead are those that simply do not use the right techniques.
As with all marketing methods there is a right way to do an email campaign and a wrong way.
We have all experienced the wrong way to do email marketing. Here are a few glaring mistakes:
• Spamming every Joe about your opportunity, service or product. We all know how annoyed we get with spammers. This is the wrong way to go and you can get into quite a bit of trouble doing this. Never purchase email blasters as this is exactly what they do for you. you get little or no response from this type of email marketing.
• Putting too many ads in your newsletter/ezine: your subscribers will unsubscribe pretty quickly if you do this.
• Sending too many solos: again this annoys subscribers and you will get people unsubscribing.
So let us do things the right way:
1. Get an autoresponder: this is a great program that manages your lists and lets you make follow ups to send to your subscribers.
2. Set up a free gift: when people sign up for your list they will get a free gift. This can be:
a. A free newsletter: my preference
b. Free report:
c. Free mini course (e-course) this is usually 5 days long. I like to give this as a bonus.
3. Set up a web form at the autoresponder for people to sign up for their free gift i.e. free newsletter.
4. Set up a sequence of follow ups, these can be:
a. Informative articles promoting your product or service
b. Free report: place 2 links strategically in your info report. One for your blog or free newsletter and one for a discount price on your product, or a link to a related affiliate product.
c. Free mini course: promote your product at the end of each lesson with a three line sig file.
5. Test and track all your promotions: Make sure your autoresponder has an open rate feature so that you can test and check your promotions.
Tips:
• Do not go with a free autoresponder they do not have al the features you need and often subject you to 3rd party ads which makes your emails look unprofessional.
• Make sure the autoresponder has unlimited follow ups and allows you to make unlimited lists. Also be sure it will track open rates of your emails and click through on links.
• Test subject lines to ensure a better open rate.
