The good old saying “those who fail to plan, plan to fail” is ever so true. Many newbies to email marketing started off with guns blazing all out to make their big bucks in their new ventures just to find themselves fighting walls of technology obstacles. Despite spending a bomb on courses and so called one size fits all automation products, their profit is hardly sufficient to even pay for the cost of their yearly domain name subscription. Do not be mistaken, I am all hands for automation and courses and that is how I started off anyway. The point is not about whether there is money to earn in email marketing but how you should reach for them.

It is always easy to attend a course today do nothing tomorrow. Even the world greatest guru cannot help you to make a fortune if you care less about your own online business. Many email marketer have no written a single business plan for their new venture and just go for the simplest and easiest thing they remember after their courses. They got no clue what they need to do today, tomorrow or even what to expect and where to find them. They do not know how many people actually subscribed to their list or what is the open rate or click through rate of their emails.

Within a month or so, they will usually give up without even knowing what failed and very often they put the blame on the guru and the methods they taught. Soon enough, they are on the way to take up another guru course. They will again repeat the previous failure by investing their time and money on yet another make money online system or method. This cycle of ‘guru hoping’ will only stop when either their pocket is exhausted or they get so disheartened with the online business and brand any businesses done online as scams.

How to break this vicious cycle?

The simplest and most effective way for these newbies to break the cycle is to:

#1: Revise what was given in the course they attended.

#2: List out some basic but yet crucial steps (they are usually highlighted in the most guru courses) and start working them out carefully.

#3: If the business involve selling of affiliated products or products list them as follows:

“I am an information publisher in the ________ niche”.

“I provide meaningful ___________ (daily, weekly, monthly) newsletters to my subscriber and support them in their endeavor to solve their problems.”

#4: Focus! Focus! Focus!

Focus your effort in promoting your product, increase your subscribers and do whatever it takes to improve your conversion rate.

#5: Replicate what works and reflect on your failure

Failure is part of this business and for the matter of fact any businesses in the world. What you need to do is to replicate what works for you and make them profitable time and time again.

Online business isn’t rocket science, it all about focus, determination and lots of patience.
