Well, I suppose you could say that most of us already know that in recent times online marketing has been hugely impacted by web2.0 sites like Facebook, Youtube, MySpace etc. These websites have a ton of traffic available to us marketers, you need to know how to make it work for you without being dismissed as a spammer.
However, there are big misconceptions about how to use these sites to market your products, build your lists, or build your downlines. Many online marketers seem to think it’s okay to join these sites, make a bunch of ‘friends’, then spam their links to those friends thinking that their friends actually want to hear about your latest mlm. I guarantee that you won’t make any money and you’ll lose all those friends pretty quickly.
There is a really simple formula in generating traffic from these sites without being banned and forever thought of as a spammer. You have to think of these social networking sites as a place where people get together to chat, discuss, and exchange ideas and thoughts. They are not places where people are looking to be sold something or recruited for some MLM opportunity. However, they are excellent places for finding people that have interest in the types of products that you’re promoting.
Think of communicating through the social networking sites as your typical offline social gathering, or a party. Usually, when you’re at a party, you don’t try and sell something to your friends that are there with you. You don’t try and recruit them to your downline or MLM opportunity. If you did, they’d probably kick you out and not invite you back to the next party! So, when you’re at a party, what to people talk about? Lots of things obviously, but at a party one of the most frequently talked about topics is your job or line of work. Think about it, when you meet someone new, one of your first questions is: “So, what do you do?”. Important note People get ‘asked’ this question, they don’t voluntarily offer that information out of the blue. You don’t go into a room and blurt out “Hi, I’m an MLM’er and you should join my program!”. It comes up in conversation, if at all.
So, how do you get traffic from your social networking sites? Well, you need to have a secondary website, not just a bunch of affiliate links. You need to have your own website, or your own blog… Some kind of website where people can go to and find out more about you. This is where your social networking friends will go to get more information on what you’re all about. If you have found like-minded friends in your online social network and you’ve spent time getting to know them, you can invite them to your blog to get to know you better. Kind of like if you go to a party, make some friends, and feel comfortable enough to invite them over to your house for dinner.
This is where your traffic comes from. It works very well and you will generate some very interested leads simply by being social, getting to know people, and inviting them to your website when the time is right. As long as you have the right mindset, people will come to you wanting to know more about what business you’re in and how you make it work for you.
