Selling Cars with Google 104 Dealer Advertising Trends

According to a new study by Google, more than half of car dealerships in the United States are not using Google Ads to market their inventory online. The study, which analyzed the online advertising practices of 5,000 dealerships across the country, found that only 44 percent of dealerships are currently using Google Ads.

This is a surprising finding, considering that 78 percent of car shoppers begin their research online, and that search is the #1 source of traffic for most dealerships. So why aren’t more dealers using Google Ads?

There are a number of possible explanations. One is that many dealerships are still relying on traditional marketing methods like TV and print ads. But as consumers increasingly turn to the internet for product research, it’s becoming more and more important for dealers to have an online presence.

Another reason may be that some dealerships are hesitant to invest in online advertising because they’re not sure how it works or how to measure its effectiveness. But with the right approach, online advertising can be a powerful tool for driving traffic to your website and generating leads.

Here are 104 dealer advertising trends from Google’s study:

1. The vast majority of dealers (96%) have a website. However, only 44% are using Google Ads to drive traffic to their website.

2. Of those who are using Google Ads, most (85%) are only running text ads, while just 15% are also using image ads or video ads.

3. The average dealership spends $1,200 per month on Google Ads, but there is a wide range in spend levels, from $50 per month to $10,000+ per month.
4. The average click-through rate (CTR) for dealership ads is 1.8%, but again there is a wide range depending on the industry and location
