Now that you have your RSS feed set up, it is time to start thinking about how to optimize it for the search engines. Just like with any other web page, you want to make sure that your RSS feed is properly formatted and keyword rich so that the search engines can easily find and index it.
Here are some tips on how to optimize your RSS feed for the search engines:
1. Use keywords in your RSS feed title and description. Just like with regular web pages, you want to use keywords throughout your RSS feed so that the search engines can easily understand what your feed is about and index it accordingly. Use keywords in your RSS feed title, description, and throughout the items in your feed.
2. Make sure your RSSfeed is well formatted. The search engines like well-formatted code and they will penalize you if your code is not clean and well organized. Use a tool like W3C’s Markup Validation Service to make sure your code is up to par.
3. Use a distinctive favicon for your RSSfeed. A favicon is the small icon that appears next to your website’s URL in the browser’s address bar. It is also used when someone bookmarks your site or adds it to their favorites list. Having a favicon helps users identify your site more easily and it can also help brand your site in the search engine results pages (SERPs).
