When there is a high demand for electricity on the grid, OhmConnect will send you a notification to reduce your power consumption. In exchange for your participation, you’ll receive a cash reward.
The service is currently available in California and Texas, and the company plans to expand to other states in the future. I had a chance to try out OhmConnect recently, and I’ve been impressed with how well it works. Here’s my full review.
What is OhmConnect?
OhmConnect is a service that helps you save money on your electricity bill by participating in energy conservation efforts. How Does OhmConnect Work?
OhmConnect works by connecting your home’s smart meter to the company’s network. Once connected, OhmConnect can monitor your power usage in real-time and make predictions about when the grid will be under strain. When this happens, OhmConnect will send you a notification asking you to reduce your power consumption. This can be done by turning off lights, unplugging devices, or adjusting your thermostat.
In exchange for your participation, OhmConnect will give you points that can be redeemed for cash rewards or gift cards from popular retailers such as Amazon and Starbucks. The amount of points you earn depends on how much power you save during an event and how often you participate. For example, if you save 1 kWh of energy during an event, you’ll earn 1 point. If you participate in 10 events and save 10 kWh of energy each time, you’ll earn 100 points. These points can then be redeemed for cash rewards or gift cards.
OhmConnect also has a refer-a-friend program that allows you to earn additional points when someone signs up for the service using your referral link. For every person that signs up and saves 1 kWh of energy during an event, you’ll earn an additional 10 points. There is no limit to the number of people you can refer or the amount of points you can earn through referrals.
In addition to helping you save money on your electricity bill, OhmConnect also helps the environment by reducing strain on the grid during times of high demand. This not only saves energy but also helps avoid blackouts and other disruptions caused by overloaded power lines
