There are plenty of semi-retired or fully retired people out there who still have a lot left to give in them. There are also folks who, for some reason or the other, cannot handle full-time work or high-flying freelance work. For people such as these, the best way to make some money is getting into freelancing that is local or regional.

All of us can’t be making millions, and if you’re content with life and family, there’s no reason why you should set out to prove otherwise. Get into a freelancing career that allows you to handle your own hours, and at the same time reap you some profits too. There are plenty of local freelancing careers out there.

One of these is dog-walking. Dog walking is remarkable in that you can fix your own hours, the exercise is good for your health, and you make some good money. All it takes is some attractive fliers posted up in pet stores, local bulletins, the classifieds and handed door to door. And you’re in business.

Another example is tailoring. You can sew, knit, crochet, or simply perform alterations. This is a really good paying job, and again, you get to set your own hours. If you’re a history buff, why not take on genealogy? This really is a well-paying career choice. Pet grooming is another easy (if you like animals) way to fill up a few hours of your day.

Most people who take on freelance work using crafts that they are expert on make splendid use of their hours, and enjoy the work too. While some may bake cakes and the like for selling, others may choose to teach what they know. Pottery, painting and carving are all crafts that can be taught to anyone with a will to learn. Or why not take on archiving old documents and books at your local library? You gain goodwill and a bit of cash too.

If you know more than one language, you can easily make it as a translator. French, German and Spanish can all get you a bit of income. Learning some obscure language may be an interesting process but getting work as a translator for it is really tough and sporadic. You’re better off learning a language that’s standard.
