You know how marketing in the ‘real world’ is done.

We’ve all seen TV, newspaper and magazine ads, we’ve heard the same ol’ jingle on the radio a thousand times and let’s not forget the travelling salesman knocking on doors. But you obviously can’t put a billboard up across the whole internet, so how does marketing on the Internet translate into sales in cyber-space?

Have a quick surf through the internet and have a good look at the pages that you land on. Most will have some form of advertising – whether it is a banner screaming “YOU’VE WON – CLICK HERE” or a more subtle link embedded into a word within the text you are reading the web is full of advertising.

Now in the real world, marketing is a huge deal – in fact by the time you have done with one campaign you have spent hundreds, if not thousands of your clients money. You’ve also probably worked all sorts of hours putting the campaign together, getting it up and running and monitoring it’s results.

That’s if you get the chance to market a product in the first place. Competition is fierce in the marketing industry and chances are that unless you have an outstanding degree and track record you won’t even get an opportunity to compete with other people wanting the same contract.

By comparison, marketing on the Internet opens the playing field up to everyone who has access to a computer and an internet connection. There is no limit to the number of campaigns that you can run at any one time or on the method of selling. Some choose to use article marketing, which can be completely free to do but is a lot of work, or others choose to use pay-per click, which has an expense attached but is faster and can be more efficient once you know how.
