Facebook has been in the news a lot lately, and not always in a good way. The social media giant has been criticized for its handling of controversial content, and its CEO Mark Zuckerberg has come under fire for his response to the issue.
In an interview with Recode, Zuckerberg addressed the issue head-on, and revealed some interesting insights into how Facebook moderation works. Here are some highlights from the interview:
On why Facebook isn’t doing more to moderate controversial content:
“I don’t think that Facebook or any other internet service should be arbiters of truth. I think that’s kind of a scary thing for society if we start having companies like Facebook be in the position of doing that.”
On whether Facebook should be more transparent about its moderation process:
“I don’t know if complete transparency would actually end up being helpful or if it would just lead to people gaming the system even more.”
On whether Facebook is biased against conservatives:
“I certainly hear that feedback from people on the conservative side. I personally believe that diversity of viewpoints is something that is really important for a healthy society and you can see that we have a really diverse community on Facebook.”
