Depending on your time online, you may or may not know that not all keywords are created equal. In fact some keywords can be a complete waste of time if your end goal is to increase your traffic. There are several factors that need to be considered before deciding on a keyword.
First of all, keyword stuffing is a thing of the past. I advice that your efforts be centered on three main keywords.
So how do you find these keywords? Finding the right keywords to target can be time consuming if you do not have the right tools at your disposal.
When searching for keywords, be on the look out for phrases that have high search volume and low to medium competition.
Once you have found your desired keyword, take it one step further. Take a look at the top ten results for your keyword in a phrase search.
You will want to go to each website one by one and determine the following. It’s domain age, the websites page rank, the number of page links to the site, and whether the site is optimized for your target keyword.
A potential keyword should have websites in the top ten with a page rank of 3 or less, a low domain age,decent number of links (that you can outnumber) and poor to no on page optimization.
While not all criteria must be met, it will be easier to outrank poorly SEOed website.
While time consuming, the above measure must be done. If not, you risk targeting a keyword that is too competitive that you will not rank for.
