You want to make a website. That’s great! Websites are a fantastic way to share your ideas, thoughts, and work with the world. But where do you start?
There are a few things you need before you can make a website:
1. A domain name. This is the address of your website on the internet. It’s what people will type into their browser to find your site. For example, our domain name is www.makeawebsitehub.com.
2. Web hosting. This is where your website’s files will live on the internet. Think of it like renting a plot of digital real estate on which to build your website. You’ll need to pay for web hosting, but we’ve got a great deal for our readers that includes a free domain name (step 1 above).
3 A text editor. This is where you’ll write the code for your website. Think of it like Microsoft Word for websites. There are many different text editors, but we recommend using atom, which is free to download and use.
4. An FTP client (optional). FTP stands for “File Transfer Protocol.” An FTP client allows you to transfer files from your computer to your web host (step 2). You can use an FTP client to upload images, videos, and other files to your web host without having to go through their web-based interface (which can be clunky). We recommend FileZilla, which is also free to download and use.
5 A bit of time and patience! Making a website takes time and effort, but it’s worth it in the end.
Now that you’ve got everything you need, let’s get started!
