I love the story that Russell is sharing in this secret. He is talking about the Arsenio Hall show that he always wanted watch and was able to watch it for couple times.
This Arsenio guy had this huge show and he was bringing famous people on this show like Bill Clinton when he was running for a president. He had this amazing famous people and celebrities on this show but then it suddenly disappeared.
Then years later Arsenio was at the competition and two competing teams were asked to raise money for charity. So Arsenio started calling people from the show and what was surprising was that he was not able to raise any money at all.
And so there was a big aha moment because he said when I was having my show everyone would return my calls but now when show disappeared people ignored him. When he didn’t have show his so called friends avoided him.
And guys you may think this is cruel but this is the way we humans are. Humans are naturally selfish and there is a great book on that called Selfish Gene. You can read it if you want.
So guys if there is nothing that people can get in return you will have a hard time to create any kind of connection with your dream 100. That’s why it is important to create your own show.
In the past the way it works there was all these TV channels and there are still TV channels but popularity is decreasing. Back then it was much more difficult to start your own show because it was expensive.
Today everything you need to start your own show is at your fingertips. All you need is just a smartphone and access to the internet and you are in business.
In the past what was the talk show is today facebook, what was the radio is podcast, sitcom is today YouTube, what was reality is today instagram and newspapers are the blogs. Times have changed.
In the beginning you need to pick just one of these mediums and focus on that cause otherwise you will fail. You need to observe yourself and find out what are you naturally good at and what you enjoy doing.
Some of you don’t want to be at camera but you can start writing blogs or creating your own podcast right? For others who do enjoy video then you can create YouTube channel, Facebook or Instagram.
There is an opportunity for all of you guys. You need to just pick and and stick with it. Consistency is vital. Start creating content and deliver value to your audience.
If you consistently create content and deliver value over the long period of time you will gain momentum and you will get enough fans on that show. And when you have this platform it will be much easier to get famous people on there.
When your show will become really successful you can hire a manager or a team that can help you with other platform. Maybe you start with just podcast. Thats what Russell Brunson cofounder of Clickfunnels started with.
When Russell’s podcast became successful he hired a team that helped him grow his other platforms. You can’t do it all on your own. It’s just not possible to do it effectively.
The reason Arsenio failed is because he didn’t understand that he doesn’t have a control over his show. He didn’t get people from his show into his email list. If he did he could still have a show today because email list is something that you own and have control over.
