-WordPress installed on your web server: Once you have signed up for web hosting, you need to install WordPress on your web server. Most hosting companies have one-click installs of WordPress, so this should be very easy to do. If not, don’t worry, we will show you how to manually install WordPress below.
Now that we have all of the required tools out of the way, let’s start building our WordPress website!
Step 1: Choose A Domain Name For Your Website
The first step is to choose a domain name for your new website. This will be your website’s address on the internet (ex: www.YourDomainName.com).
Ideally, you want to choose a domain name that is short, easy to remember, and relevant to your niche or business.
If the domain name you want is taken, don’t worry! There are many ways to find a unique and available domain name for your new site:
-Add hyphens between words (ex: My-New-Website)
-Use abbreviations (ex: MyNewSite = MNS)
-Get creative with spelling (ex: MyNyewSit = MNS)
Once you have found an available domain name that you like, it’s time to register it with a domain registrar like Bluehost or GoDaddy . Both companies offer very reasonable rates for new domains (.com domains usually cost around $10 – $15 per year).
If you are registering your domain through Bluehost , then you can skip this next section about DNS records because Bluehost will automatically set these up for you when you register your domain with them .
Otherwise , if you are using another registrar like GoDaddy , then keep reading because we will show you how to set up DNS records for your new domain below .
Step 2 : Set Up DNS Records For Your Domain [Only For Non – Bluehost Domains] Setting up DNS records can sound complicated but it’s actually very easy to do . All you need to do is login to your account with your domain registrar and add what are called A records . An A record tells the internet where yourdomainname . com should point to , which in this case would be the IP address of your web server .
So if someone types in www . mydomainname . com into their browser , the registrar will look up the A record and see that it points to the IP address of my web server , so it knows whereto send them .
The most common way that people set up DNS records is by using what are called CNAME records . CNAME records are easier to setup than A records but they have one major downside which we’ll discuss later on . For now though , let’s assume that we’re goingto use CNAME records since they’re simpler . All we needto do is login into our registrar account and add twoCNAME records :
