So I like start with the term freelancer and what kinda of means to me. Words come with their own baggage and interpretations so for me the term freelancer means two things only: that you are self-employed and you work for different assignments for one of multiple clients. But freelancing in real world is not just that because no one is going to look for me and beg to accept their assignments or projects, I need to find clients before being employed and that means to apply some sort of marketing techniques, so I already moved away from the original definition of being a freelancer. So how I like to introduce myself to the clients is that I’m a contractor, and I’m just taking your orders or instructions but instead of that I’m also in charge of the whole design and creative process of the product. And that usually means that I will be responsible for the appearance of the website, how users interact with that, the user experience and that sort of thing.

And also being a contractor comes with a set of rules like I’m not taking subjective orders without a logic explanation, I’m also going to sub-contract other designers or illustrators if I feel like we need an expert in this field and of course the money is going to be a higher and usually they feel more comfortable giving someone more money and reduce their responsibilities as project owners

I also like to address to the platforms and services which are built to solve this problem of marketing and finding clients but this platforms worked to a certain degree for me. I’ve also been part of a community platforms to find clients and I used it more a learning tool to practice and build up a portfolio with real projects. But as soon as I felt like i’m not gaining valuable experience and more money I kinda of went on own. So with that cleared out let’s see some real projects I work for.

So what kind of projects I do as a web designer? So here is a recent project I’ve been working on, and the reason I have blurred their logo is because I’m not totally sure if they are comfortable with that because I’m filming in a Sunday and no one is going to answer. So my responsibilities were more inclined to services like user interactions, user experience and of course choosing the right framework interface.

So from financial point of view it kinds of varies based on the package the client wants to proceed with me. So what I mean with package is I usually write in the proposal three different pricing sums based on the responsibility the client wants me to take over. So this is a proposal from Jonathan Stark, I will link this proposal in case you want to get it yourself. So I usually charge monthly and my prices are not that higher…

So I hope I helped you with some valuable insight of what I do as a UX Designer, hopefully now it’s much clear and if you have any questions please let me know by commenting on this video or you can ask me on my instagram as well.
